Tattooist Falls Short of World Record

City officials joined Key West Ink tattoo artist John Paul Bertrand on Thursday as he attempted to break the Guinness world record for most tattoos given in 24 hours -- 415.

But after all was said and done, Bertrand fell short of the goal, applying "only" 356 tattoos. He was 59 short.

"I'm tired," he said Friday afternoon. "I just want to go home and see my kids. I'm going to retire."

Bertrand wasn't upset he didn't set a new record.

No More Visible Teacher Tattoos

The Joplin Board of Education has given the green light to change district policy to forbid visible tattoos.

Teachers were previously required to wear clothing that “minimizes” tattoos, but it did not prohibit part or all of the tattoo from showing. Board members appeared to be unanimous about tattoos being inappropriate in a classroom setting and authorized the policy change.
